Reader’s Block? No Problem! Try These Tips That Got Me Back to Reading!

Reader’s block is a phase where even avid readers lack interest in picking up a book to read. They struggle to get through a few pages and feel guilty for not reading enough. This causes frustration.

Do you find yourself trapped by Reader’s Block? Don’t worry,  it happens to the best of us. Sometimes we just need a little break from the routine and treat ourselves to some bookish self-care. Remember, the key is to never blame yourself. Don’t force yourself to read if you’re not in the mood.

Here are some useful tips to help you unwind and reignite your passion for reading:-

Create a warm and inviting reading corner

Nothing beats curling up with a good book in a comfortable and inviting space. Find a spot in your home that is quiet and cozy, and add some pillows, blankets, candles, or anything else that makes you feel happy. You can also play some soothing music to set the mood.

Try a different genre or format

Maybe you’re bored with reading the same kind of books over and over again. Why not spice things up by trying something new? You might discover a new favorite genre or format that you never expected to enjoy. For example, you could try reading graphic novels,  poetry, short stories, non-fiction or even hear audiobooks.

Join a Book Club or Challenge

Sometimes reading can feel lonely or isolating, especially if you don’t have anyone to share your thoughts and opinions with. Joining a book club or challenge can help you connect with fellow readers, discover new books, and have fun discussions. You can find book clubs or challenges online, in your local library, or amongst your friends and family.

Reward yourself with bookish goodies

Reading is its own reward, but sometimes we need a little extra motivation to get out of a slump. Why not treat yourself to some bookish goodies, such as bookmarks, stickers, pins, mugs, candles, or even more books that intrigue you? You can also make your own bookish crafts or DIY projects to express your creativity and love for books.

Take a break from reading

This might sound counterintuitive, but sometimes the best way to get out of a reader’s block is to stop reading for a while. Maybe you’re feeling burned out, stressed, or overwhelmed by your to-be-read (TBR) pile. It is perfectly fine to engage in alternative activities that bring you equal joy, such as enjoying a movie, partaking in a game, exercising, meditating, or spending quality moments with your loved ones. You will know when to come back to reading once you’re ready and refreshed.

I hope these tips help you overcome your reader’s block and you enjoy reading again. Remember, reading is supposed to be fun and relaxing, not a chore or a pressure. Find what works best for you and remember that you will eventually find your way back to the world of books.
